new commercial radio stations will take to the air via DAB+ in the
German cities of Leipzig and Freiberg. The Saxon State Media Authority
for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM) is promoting the local DAB+
multiplexes operated and set up by the broadcaster DIVICON Media
Holding GmbH, Leipzig, reports infosat.de.
It will soon be possible to distribute a good quality DAB+ radio
program for around €300 per month, according to the same article, which
is considerably cheaper than previously available on FM.
The transmitter in Leipzig transmits in the DAB channel 6C (185.360
MHz), and in Freiberg on channel 10D (215.072 MHz). All owners of a DAB+
radios should perform a “scan” on their receivers after Jan. 31.
In Denmark, transmission services provider Teracom has ordered three additional DAB+ multiplexers from Paneda.
With the exception of the RF gear the DAB+ multiplex is completely
virtual. “...our concept to build DAB infrastructure by ourselves, using
our data center, is now well proven and shows that this is the right
choice for Teracom. Paneda with its DAB system optimized for data
centers fits us perfectly,” said Karsten Madsen, Operation Manager at
Teracom AS Denmark. No word, though, on precisely what areas will be
served by this new capacity.
In the Flanders part of the Netherlands, anyone traveling between
Central Zeeland and Zeeuws-Vlaanderen can now continue to listen to DAB+
in the car without interruption. The national public, commercial and
regional stations are passed through the 6 km Westerscheldetunnel, which
is the longest tunnel in the Netherlands for road traffic, according to
totaaltv.nl.
In addition, the FM channel offering in the tunnel has been expanded
with BNR, Radio 10, 100% NL and channels from Belgium: the classic VRT
Klara and the pop station Studio Brussel.
In Ghent new channels were activated (for East Flanders) with
commercial channels, including Top Radio, VBRO, Joe FM and Q Music
Vlaanderen. Reception in Flanders will soon be further expanded further
after the official national launch of DAB+ Flanders
